2005 RI Lead Law Changes
Lead Liability Insurance
 

The 2005 Rhode Island General Assembly has made the following changes to the R.I. Lead Law.
 
NOVEMBER 1, 2005 – The final date that the RI Housing Resource Commission Lead Hazard Mitigation Standards will take effect!
   
EXEMPT PROPERTIES – Short term rentals of less than 100 days per year,
Common areas of a Condominium, units with Lead-Free or Lead-Safe certificates, owner occupied 2 or 3 family houses and buildings specifically zoned as an Elderly Housing Complex (these exemptions do not exempt you from the RI Dept. of Health Regulations, Federal Regulations or from liability.)
   
CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMANCE – is good for 2 years or next change of tenancy which ever is longer.
   
HARDSHIP CLAUSE – For owners who financially cannot afford to comply.
   
HISTORIC PROPERTY ASSISTANCE
   
MANDATORY criminal penalties and fines removed.
